Cornwall Sustainability Awards

This year, we entered the 20th Cornwall Sustainability Awards competition, hosted by Cornwall Council and business support enterprise Tevi, which celebrates organisations and individuals in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly for their contribution towards sustainability, environmental growth, the circular economy and carbon neutrality.
The Lord Lieutenant Col Edward Bolitho opened the event which featured record-breaking yachtswoman Nikki Henderson and explorer Robin Hanbury-Tenison as the inspirational keynote speakers.
It really was a truly inspiring evening, with all the CSA entrants ‘making change happen’. It was great to network and speak with similar minded people, sharing ideas and good practice.

Key points for myself were:
- Work with nature, don’t work against it.
- Spread the sustainability word.
- Change your perspective, look at the shore from the sea – this was really powerful and Nikki Henderson reminded me of a trip I had taken on Padstow Sea Life Safaris, exploring the endangered feeding grounds of our native sea birds.
- Low impact husbandry – Robin Hanbury-Tenison really hit home with and reminded me of geography studies on indigenous populations, which often seems to be so far removed, yet we can learn so much from and we are also so responsible for their futures. That was quite an emotional moment.
We were absolutely thrilled to achieve Highly Commended in the Cornwall Sustainability Awards, the strong and diverse number of entrants in both our own category of Carbon Neutral and across the board gave pause for inspiration and optimism for the future of Cornwall and beyond. We all must and can do better!
We must thank our wonderful guests for all doing their bit, it’s fantastic that sustainability awareness is out there and the fact that ours guests keep coming back means the world to us. So, we share this award with all of you!
See you soon!
