What They Said

“Higher Pendeen is the kind of campsite that’s so brilliant you want to keep it a secret. Liz is a wonderful host and the campsite is in the most idyllic location. They have made sure it’s kept in beautiful condition allowing nature to enjoy it as much as us. 10 minute walk down to a beautiful beach with incredible sunsets, and some delicious food trucks, bars and coffee shops to enjoy.” Sam – Sept 23
“Once again we had a fab stay at Higher Pendeen! It’s always a lovely welcome from Liz, friendly and easy going. Being off grid is so relaxing, even our grown up grandchildren loved it ( that was a surprise!!) Enjoying the fire pit at the end of a busy day at the beach!
The location is fantastic and if you get up early enough, the sun rise is spectacular!” Angela – Sept 23
“We recently stayed for a couple of nights. Great location, short walk to a lovely beach, there’s also bars, shop & chippy plus public toilets near the beach. Our children had such a fabulous time, they enjoyed meeting new friends. You also have privacy & all families were lovely. I can also see this place as a lovely holiday for couples as well as families. Liz is an amazing host there if you need anything but also let’s you be so you feel you have freedom to look around. Fire pit was great I’d recommend getting logs from Liz. We also were only less than 20 minutes drive to Newquay so again great location. Our children preferred here than France. We hired bell tent it was nice & spacious plus comfortable. There’s nothing that needs improvement. Thanks again Liz for such a great stay x” Laura – August 23
“Absolutely gorgeous find! We have all been camping as friends for over 10 years now and have all voted this our best yet!! Fabulous location just a ten minute walk to the beach and great restaurants and bars. The campsite itself and bell tents are beautifully kept and the owner Liz and her son couldn’t have been more helpful and accommodating. Oh and the beds are sooo comfortable you forget you’re even camping!!! Thank you again Liz and family x” Sam – August 23
“Lovely few days at eco friendly campsite. Having not camped for years I was worried how I would find the experience of going totally off grid but it turns out I had nothing to worry about besides some unfortunate weather. Camp site has a stunning view and easy access to Mawgan Porth beach. Toilet is clean. The outdoor shower is fun! Fire pit and grill provided. Bell tents are a great size and clean, double bed very comfy. Liz (the campsite owner/manager) is a welcoming and helpful host. Our fellow campers were respectable and easy to get along with. Simple, no frills camping in lovely surroundings and an opportunity to reconnect with nature.” Lucy – July 23
“Lovely weekend. Took the option to use one of the Bell tents in situ as arriving late on the Friday. Great accommodation and a beautiful site. Everything clean and welcoming, Liz was a fantastic host as well. Beautiful spot, can’t rate highly enough” C Harris – July 23
“(Translated by Google) Very small campsite with three rental tents and two camping spots. The pitches are spacious and flat. Each pitch has a fire bowl/grill and a picnic table available. The compost toilet takes some getting used to, but it is doable. The shower is nice and warm. Waste is separated into different bins. The gate to enter the site is directly on the road (we drove past it first). Horses and goats are right next to the campsite. Nice view over the hills. Walking distance to the pub, small supermarket and beach. Very friendly owner.

Zeer vriendelijke eigenaresse.” Wanda – July 23
“Lovely pleasant surprise, nestled on a fascinating hill with thousands of years of history from flint tools, round houses, chapels and much more. Stayed a week, slept well every night, so much wildlife, wonderful. Our experience of the composting toilet was a pleasure to use, and particularly hygienic. Thank you Liz and Mike for being great hosts.” Jane and Pete – June 23
“This was our first time camping and it was one of the most beautiful and relaxing experiences ever! Highly recommended to stop by and you won’t regret it!

“Simply wonderful. Couldn’t have asked for anything more. Facilities were clean and fresh, Liz was a great host, friendly and full of local knowledge. Fire pits and grill provided to cook over which was a nice surprise, we could even pick our own homegrown herbs! So nice to find somewhere that feels authentic, friendly and personable when there are so many huge campsites and touring parks around. We will definitely be back. Thanks Liz!” Hannah – June 23
“A hidden gem! A small eco friendly site with a great feel and amazing owners – will be back next year! Great view, Quiet, Great value” Simon – June 23
“We loved our stay at Higher Pendeen. Liz is such a great host, so friendly and helpful. The bell tent was a perfect size for us and we loved the easy going atmosphere at the campsite. Loads of lovely places nearby to eat at and get coffees. Stunning scenery and easy to get to the lovely beach nearby. We can’t wait to come back!” Rachel – June 23
“We visited Higher Pendeen with friends for our kids first camping trip and had the best experience. The campsite is beautiful and a great location to get to the beach / local shops and restaurants. Liz was really helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. Definitely recommend a visit!” Ellie – June 23
“What a beautiful spot! A really nice and intimate setting amongst nature, not at all crowded with only a small handful of pitches. The site overlooks a beautiful wooded valley and it is a 15 minute walk to the beach. Liz is lovely and really made us feel at home.” Adam – May 23
“I cannot recommend this campsite enough! Liz was so friendly and welcoming, she couldn’t do enough for us, always checking in and giving advice and guidance. Such a lovely campsite too, you feel like you’ve really stepped away from the bustle of the city. We will definitely be returning!! Thank you !!
Walkability: So close to the beach! A really lovely 10min walk took you right to the beach front!!” Lucy – May 23
“A lovely quiet and respectful little camp site within easy walking distance of the beach and SW coast path at Mawgan Porth.
Liz really looked after me during my 7 night stay there. She couldn’t do enough for me and made me feel extremely welcome.
The camp site is beautiful with amazing sunrises and sunsets. You can read about the facilities on their web site, but they are exceptionally well maintained and function perfectly.
I enjoyed a very peaceful stay here and can’t wait to return soon. Highly recommended.
Nearby activities: Beach at Mawgan Porth
St. Mawgan
Walkability: Short walk from the SW Coast path at Mawgan Porth.” Graham – May 23
“A lovely little campsite, in a perfect location for walking to the beach and cafes along the private footpath, yet set far enough away to be quiet and with nature. Liz is a fab host and we would love to return.” Hebe – April 23
“The best place I’ve ever been. Honestly everything was perfect can’t wait to go back in the summer!” KK – August 22
“Lovely, small, quiet campsite with basic but well maintained and clean facilities. Very attentively managed by Liz who came round every day to check we were OK, provided earplugs for the stormy weather (which thankfully didn’t last) and kept us topped up with firewood and very very delicious local bacon. Mawgan Porth and St Mawgan both walking distance for supplies and eating out, and Mawgan Porth has a great beach. Great holiday despite the rain – thanks for having us!” Miriam – Sept 22
“We were recommended Higher Pendeen as a lovely family-run smaller campsite with a focus on eco-friendly sustainability and we certainly weren’t disappointed. It was really important for us that the site be quiet and friendly as we have children with additional needs. Higher Pendeen ticked all the boxes as a lovely site with lots of space and paths for the kids to run around with total acceptance (whilst being quiet and friendly enough not to overwhelm) and farm activities for them to get interested in, including goats and visiting horses every evening. Liz, the owner, couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful and always on hand if we needed anything. With fire-pit, drinking water and washing facilities provided and logs and kindling and food available delivered to the tent, my bushcraft loving husband was in his element. The golden sands, caves, rock-pools and waves of the beach within walking distance, as well as lovely restaurants, craft pop-up shop and pitch and putt in the bay meant that the setting really was idyllic and we can’t wait to go back to High Pendeen as soon as possible.” Joanna – August 22
“Me and my girlfriend stayed with Higher Pendeen Camping earlier this Summer in July. It was incredible. The view from the campsite and with just a short 5-10 minutes walk through the fields (on a mowed path) to the beach made it a thoroughly memorable camping experience! Liz was so accommodating the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed, safe and just so happy to there. They really do have something special going on here and if anyone were to have the chance to stay at Higher Pendeen Camping then you should take it!! You do not want to miss out! Thank you so much again to Liz and her family for making it such an enjoyable experience for me and Sofía. :))” Ollie – July 22
“Higher Pendeen is a real find! From the minute, you make your 1st enquiry, you know that Liz is going to be the most attentive host and your stay will be outstanding in this beautiful place. The tents and beds are very comfortable. We will definitely be back!” Scott – August 22
“Had a great 2 night stay at Higher Pendeen. Lovely setting & well thought out site. Liz was so warm & welcoming. We’re not natural campers, but really enjoyed the experience. Particularly liked the outdoor shower in evening sunshine. Lots of thoughtful little touches. Would definitely recommend.” Alice – August 22
“We had a fabulous stay. The site was small and very friendly, close to really good Cornish produce shop; fab almond croissants and coffee! Great pub for lunch, really friendly and the best service. Our tent was very comfortable and the facilities were great; love the compost loo, everyone’s should have one!!! The shower was a dream and we loved the log starter pack for our fire pit. We took our dog for the first time and he was very welcome.
Great safe place for all.” Chris – August 22
“The biggest compliment we can pay Liz and Higher Pendeen is that our stay felt as though we were camping in a family friends’ back garden. Liz is so warm with her welcome and is always willing to offer recommendations on days out to the beach, local eateries, walks and nothing is ever too much bother for her. From digging up fresh veg for your tea to drying your soaked through clothes in the polytunnel, we feel so looked after at Higher Pendeen it feels like home! The eco credentials of the site is a massive plus for us, without compromising on comfort and facilities. The toilets are always clean and the shower is pure luxury (showering outdoors but with hot water!). The size of the site is small but the pitches don’t feel on top of one another and to top it all off, you’re only a short walk from Mawgan Porth beach and the shops down there. We will be back for a third summer running in 2023 and I suppose that just about says it all. Meur ras Liz!” Bryn – August 22
“Have just returned from a 3 night stay at Higher Pendeen, and what a wonderful stay it was! Liz was the perfect host, giving us lots of information before our arrival as well as being on hand if there was anything that was needed during our stay. The facilities are great, and everything is well maintained and checked every day. We had two tents between our two families and it was perfect for our needs, as well as only a 15 min walk to the Mawgan Porth beach across the fields. Thank you Liz for a fantastic stay!” Claire – August 22
“We stayed in Liz’s beautiful bell tents for three nights. It was perfect. Everything was Clean and spacious. Liz was very helpful and went above and beyond. Thanks!
We loved the fact the tents had their own seating area and weren’t on top of each other and only a short walk to the beach! A complete gem. We will be back!” Jo – August 22
“What an absolute gem of a campsite. Tiny but perfectly formed. Just ten minutes walk from beautiful Mawgan Porth, this little campsite is an absolutely amazing find. Liz is so very welcoming and kind, and despite the slightly worrying prospect of an eco toilet – nothing could have been better! Spotlessly clean, no smells from the toilets, and the shower with the twinkly fairy lights in the evening was just magical. Cannot fault it, and would go back there in a heartbeat. Heartily recommend, and yet I kind of hope nobody reads this ;)” Hayley – August 22
“A fantastic campsite within a short walk from Mawgan Porth beach. There are three bell tent pitches and two flat pitches for own tents. The eco toilet and outdoor shower were clean and pleasant to use. The owner, Liz, is lovely and helpful, supplying veg, firewood and local tips. Definitely recommended.” Helen – August 22
“Had a fantastic weekend in one of the Bell tents. The site is so quiet and well maintained, the bell tents are spacious and we felt truly relaxed. Liz was so welcoming and friendly. Highly recommend to anyone wanting to get away from the bustle of a usual campsite, but remaining close to local amenities (the beach is a 10 min walk along with local shops and restaurants). The toilets and shower were spotless too!” Suzanne – August 22
“Absolutely stunning location 10 minutes walk from Mawgan Porth beach. Liz made us very welcome on arrival and through out our stay. Provided great fire kit packs for the fire pit as well as recommending places to go. Brilliant experience we will definitely been returning.” Bob – August 22
“We had the best couple of days, staying during the hottest two days on record. Wonderful place, Liz gave us a very friendly welcome. Great location, perfect for walks, swims, meals out, BBQ by the tent, etc. We can’t wait to return with family in a few weeks!” Clare – July 22
“An amazing eco-glamping experience in Cornwall.
We booked Higher Pendeen Camping originally for 4 nights but we loved it so much we extended our stay whilst we were there as we didn’t want to leave! the campsite location is beautiful – on a hill looking towards the bay of Mawgan Porth where you can fall asleep to the sound of the sea and sit around your campfire watching the sun go down.
The walk to Mawgan Porth beach is just 10 minutes through private fields and makes life so simple and easy as you can leave the car at the campsite and truly relax without the worry of finding and paying for parking at Cornwall’s beaches which can get a little hectic in summer.
Mawgan Porth itself is lovely, slightly quieter than the likes of Newquay, Watergate Bay and sits abreast of the South West Coastal path just 2.5 miles to Watergate Bay walking along the path or 2 miles to Bedruthan Steps (I really recommend this walk!). The beach is clean and there are lots of rockpools to explore at low tide.
Mawgan Porth has a small variety of shops and a restaurant and a pub. We ate at Catch one evening which was great.
We stayed in a Bell tent which was fantastic as it meant we didn’t need to bring our own tent and this was equipped with a comfy bed, outdoor chairs and a fire pit. The toilet is a compostable toilet, but don’t be put off it is exceptionally clean, doesn’t smell and is just like any other toilet. The shower has plenty of hot water and again is spotless. These are cleaned daily. The campsite is quiet.
Liz the campsite owner is exceptionally accommodating, making sure our every need was tended to. An excellent host who made us feel truly at home.
I feel the price was incredibly good value for Cornwall and the facilities offered.
I cannot recommend highly enough. We had a fantastic stay and really didn’t want to come home. We’re about to rebook for later in summer and I urge you to do so too!” Becca – July 22
“Peaceful but with all the facilities; comfortable but it is still camping; fresh veg! Close to beach / shops and lovely walk to the beach – especially at dusk or moonlight – so much better than the road. Easy bus connections for walking in either direction.” James – July 22
“Liz is very friendly and helpful. The views are lovely. A Nice quiet camp site. A short walk to the beach.” Hayley – July 22
“We had a wonderful time camping at Higher Pendeen. Liz was the best host, always on hand for a chat and advice, with a great sense of humour 🙂 a short walk across the fields to the beach and a 20min walk to St Mawgan, the site was perfectly situated. The compost loo and shower were always immaculate, the views were beautiful and the pitch size generous. I loved that the tents weren’t all crammed in to the site, each pitch had its own seating area which made it feel all the more secluded and special. We stayed for a week and saw countless other campsites on our travels but always said “our campsite is definitely the best” and we meant it! It was a real gem! We also LOVED the eggs, veg and the goats- they were the cutest!” Louise – July 22
“A superb small, family run campsite that cater for everything you need in a wonderful location.
We loved the ethos of the site and stayed in one of their bell tents… the bed was comfy, the tent was spacious and the solar lights were beautiful.” Jen – July 22
“Amazing little farm/campsite, 20 min walk from an incredible beach. A peaceful campsite , lovely vibe to the place, eco friendly and Liz is lovely! We felt looked after throughout our stay. If you want to get away from it all, get over to Higher Pendeen!” Azim – June 22
“Perfect spot for our SWCP hike…. Thanks Liz…” David – June 22
“We’ve just returned from 3 nights at Higher Pendeen. Absolutely beautiful glamping site, fantastic location – loved the special path to the beach and a nice walk to St Mawgan. So peaceful and the facilities were the cleanest we’ve experienced! Plus lovely hot outdoor shower. Our 3 and 5 year old also loved it and the animals and outdoor space to run around in! Liz is a fantastic host. We’ll be back for sure!” Cathy – June 22
“Fantastic site in an amazing location. The facilities are very clean and well maintained. Liz was great and anything we needed was on hand. Would definitely recommend for a family beach holiday or couples break” Andrew – June 22
“We have just got back from the most wonderful week staying in a bell tent. The tent was clean, more than big enough for me and my two boys and the pitch very well equipped. The facilities were cleaned everyday, and the surroundings were stunning and immaculately presented. Liz did everything possible to make our stay as comfortable as possible – contacted us before arrival, checked in that we had everything we needed throughout our stay, and even came round with strawberries and scones one afternoon. She was always on hand for advice and local recommendations too. The location is ideal for beautiful walks in the country side, walking distance to the beach and well situated for driving to nearby towns and beaches too. We have already booked to go back next year, and I would recommend this site to anyone wishing to visit north Cornwall.” Stephanie – June 22
“Had an absolutely amazing time. Lovely campsite with the loveliest host! I can honestly say I never wanted to leave. I recommend 100%, you will have the best time. I hope to go back soon!” Olivia – May 22

“Amazing location and break to get away and recharge from busy city life. Short walk to the beach, with some stunning views on the way! One of the most well put together campsites I’ve had the pleasure of staying at. Big thank you to Liz the host, she is lovely and on hand if you need anything. Couldn’t recommend enough, can’t wait to come again!!” Kerry – May 22
“I just stayed here for the weekend with a group of girls. This was the best weekend I’ve had in a very long time. Not only the company but the place itself Higher Pendeen Camping Bell Tents, was absolutely amazing. A little hidden gem that really is outstanding. Close to the beach and shops, beautiful views and surroundings. We were welcomed by the owner Liz, who was just so lovely, she couldn’t have gone more out of her way to make sure our weekend was perfect. Very friendly and attentive. Would highly recommend. Can’t wait to book again thank you so much for making this a memorable and truly fab weekend.” Charlene – May 22
“Had a fantastic week long stay at Higher Pendeen Camping – Liz (the owner) couldn’t do enough for us, was so helpful freezing ice packs or charging our power banks, genuinely so helpful and friendly. We enjoyed the natter of a morning and evening when she did her rounds too! The site is within walking distance to Mawgan Porth, super easy to find and had everything we needed and more. A great base for exploring Cornwall, highly recommend.” Michelle – May 2022
“Glorious post Easter sunshine and beach trip. My daughter and I found a wonderful host and the perfect balance of ‘wild’ camping with enough carefully curated comforts and touches to make us feel beautifully spoilt. The whole family will be back soon.” Neil – April 22
“Extremely welcoming and enjoyable experience with great accommodation and in an amazing location.” Samuel – April 22
“If you want to disappear for a while and find a space to lift your spirits and let you breathe, Higher Pendeen is a location to head for. An eco-friendly camp site with every consideration made to the wildlife who regularly trail through past your tent and the goats who are your neighbours, reminding you, you are in their space. A short walk from the beach with incredible views of the rolling hills behind you, take time to slow the pace down and recharge. Your host, Liz has the most incredible passion for her family legacy and so much knowledge to share, you will come away being just that little bit more aware of the world around you and what you can do to make a difference to keep it safe.” South West Tourism Excellence Awards Testimonial – April 22
“Lovely place to stay, that’s packed with personality. Liz is a very welcoming host who will look after you too.” Henry – April 22
