More of What They Said
“We loved our stay at Higher Pendeen. We were slightly worried on the first night about the high winds but were kindly reassured by Liz the following day. Amazing friendly service from Liz, couldn’t do enough to make our stay more comfortable. We will definitely be back next year.” Hollie – Oct 21
“Perfect for those who wish to be away from the crowds and submersed in nature. Simple field with only five pitches, greats views across the valley and only a short walk to the sea. Compost toilet and eco-friendly facilities were impressive and should really be mandatory on camp sites. Warm, semi-al fresco shower. Level pitches, each with its own bench and fire pit.” Jeremy – Sept 21
“Wonderful 3 night stay in the bell tent for young couple at Higher Pendeen Camping. Quiet setting with just a few other campers. Simple but very good facilities (toilet and shower), picnic benches available as well as a fire pit (can buy fire wood from the campsite). Bell tent came with double bed and two single beds (take your own bedding). Gorgeous sunrise and sunset views. Easy walk down to the local beach. Liz was a wonderful, welcoming host she offered seasonable homegrown vegetables and happy to chat about the farm, keeping some areas of the land wild etc. 20 min drive to Harlyn Bay (we did surfing lesson there and went to The Pig, highly recommend, for dinner one night) and 30 min to Padstow.” Robyn – Sept 21
” This campsite is tiny. I mean, really tiny. Five pitches: two bell tents and three camping. One composting toilet and one shower. It has to be limited to this number of pitches to make room for the ten billion stars that turn up after dark. Higher Pendeen is a campsite where half the field is given over to butterflies, bees and insects, going about their business in the long grass and wildflowers. It’s perfectly in balance with its natural surroundings. All a ten minute walk from the crashing Cornish coastline. I stayed in a bell tent, which had TARDIS dimensions and made camping so, so easy. Frankly, it’s a relief to know that there are campsites like this out there.” Kitiara – Sept 21
“We stayed at Higher Pendeen for 4 nights mid September and had the most wonderful time! The location of the camp is perfect, just a 10 min stroll to Mawgan Porth which has a number of local shops and restaurants and stunning beach with surf hire/school. There are some great walks along the costal path within easy reach of the campsite too. We stayed in a bell tent which was fabulous. Much more spacious than expected and we had use of a fire pit and picnic bench which was lovely to sit out in the evenings watching the sun set. Liz kept the camp spotlessly clean and it felt very safe and COVID secure with all the measures that were in place. Hot shower was a nice addition too. It was nice to hear the local wildlife, horses, goats and bats going about their business at night too. Liz was an excellent host, very accommodating and helpful. My only regret was not staying here longer and if I’d have known how much we would enjoy our time here I would have booked extra nights. Thanks again for a wonderful time.” Ruth – Sept 21
“The service, people, atmosphere and ethics of this incredible site were without reproach. In 20 years of camping I have never had a better experience.” Luke – Aug 21
“Cannot recommend Higher Pendeen enough, so rare to find a genuinely peaceful camping experience with such generous and kind hosts. Set in idyllic countryside with gorgeous views out to the sunset, this slice of Cornwall was made even more perfect in our cosy bell-tent surrounded by nature, farm animals and big skies. Thank you so much for making our stay so comfortable, it was a delight!” Eva – Aug 21
“Fabulous eco friendly campsite in great location 15min walk over the fields to the lovely beach at Mawgan Porth. Our bell tent had proper beds, the solar shower was excellent and the host was very helpful. The kids had loads of room to run around and play cricket and we all enjoyed cooking our tea on the fire! We didn’t want to leave.” Kate – Aug 21
“If you are searching for a wonderful tranquillity, you definitely should visit this place! The host Liz is very welcoming, warm hearted and charming person. I had a great time at Higher Pendeen Camping and definitely I will come back in the future. Thank you for creating such a marvellous atmosphere!” Joanna – Aug 21
“Fantastic host. Host really friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. Excellent eco site with very clean composting toilets. Just 5 pitches (although there are other sites nearby) and 10 minutes walk from the beach with a selection of restaurants.” Hazel – Aug 21
“A lovely campsite! Limited pitches makes for a more intimate and friendly setting. The views are beautiful. Walk to Mawgan Porth beach is a breeze, and proximity to other places makes it a great starting point for adventures. Liz is a welcoming and attentive host who goes out of her way to make your stay comfortable and safe. We were more than happy with our visit.” Georgia – Aug 21
“A wonderful back to basics site. This site really is as described. It’s just five pitches, which is great if you don’t like the crowds. The pitches are marked out so no neighbours encroaching on your space. Clean composting toilets and outdoor showers and genuinely a short walk to the beach. People with xl tents would find the pitches a bit small but they are plenty big enough for a 5/6 berth tent and they all have a great separate fire/cooking area. Well worth a return visit.” Laura – Aug 21
“A truly wonderful and relaxing break. My daughter and I visited the campsite for a two night break. Liz was welcoming and considerate to all our needs: she is a excellent host! Nothing was too much trouble and I whole heartedly recommend this little slice of paradise for a back to nature break.” Clare – Aug 21
“This is a tiny camping/glamping site just off the narrow road leading to Mawgan Porth, a coastal village that is a small but lively holiday spot with a surfing/rockpooling sandy beach. The campsite has a relaxed and friendly feel, with spacious pitches surrounding a small wild meadow. It has no reception/office but the owner Liz comes to greet you and explain ins and outs. Liz is full of local knowledge and she also grows veg which is on offer to the guests. There’s lots to do in the area, and the blog on the campsite’s website has very helpful suggestions for lesser known places! We stayed with our 7 year old son in a bell tent, which had lots of room and comfortable beds, and it felt like a very good base for exploring.” Anna – Aug 21
“Liz was so friendly from start to finish, she can’t do enough for her guests! Really cute little site on a smallholding, 10 mins walk from the beach & hustle but far enough away to feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. Tiny site, beautifully kept, with ponies grazing & space for kids to play, and Liz wandering around with her basket of fresh veg to bulk up your BBQ. The bell tents are huge inside with comfy beds, fairy lights galore, funky upcycled tyre furniture dotted about. Love it, will definitely be back.” Mandy – Aug 21
“Higher Pendeen Camping is a little slice of back-to-nature heaven that we all deserve. The charming and friendly hostess even managed to add hot water showers, flower-scented compost loos and home-grown produce-for-sale into the bargain which made the experience all the more special. A very manage-able 10 minute walk away from the busy beach of Mawgan Porth (and I had a 14 yr old with me… need I say more) Higher Pendeen camping is calm and quiet – the perfect Cornish camping retreat for everyone who hankers after that off-grid haven of tranquillity.” Charlotte – Aug 21
“Lovely campsite in sheltered valley just a stones throw over the fields to Mawgan Porth. We stayed here for two nights in one of the pre-erected bell tents. The site is lovely and you can walk to Mawgan Porth beach and the coastal path in 15 minutes over the fields. The tent was really comfortable and lovely outside seating area for BBQs/fire pit. Compost loos and hot shower both very clean. Hope to visit again next year.” Kathryn – Aug 21
“Relaxing stay, made better by good facilities and a brilliant host. Me and my friend spent two nights in a two man tent on one of the small grass pitches. The location of the campsite is very good, not too far of a walk to the beach. The general atmosphere on the campsite is lovely, both Liz and the fellow campers were extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the surrounding area. Would definitely stay again and recommend to anyone seeking an adventurous Cornwall get away. Another nice touch was the eco friendly and environment conscious aspects of the site, from wild flower areas to the compost loo and access to recycling. Overall faultless experience.” Robbie – Aug 21
“Higher Pendeen is such a beautiful campsite. Liz looked after us from beginning to end and we felt very at home. It was so lovely to have lots of space around us but also chat with a few of our fellow campers. Our son loved the animals in the fields nearby and playing with other children. The campsite was quiet and easy to settle to sleep. The facilities are really environmentally friendly and it was great to embrace this ethos for our stay. We loved being able to easily walk to the beach and into Mawgan Porth.” Victoria – Aug 21
“We had a lovely break at Higher Pendeen, we used the fire pit every evening, Liz was so helpful in recommending days out and she even dug vegetables for us from her vegetable garden.. the beds were comfortable and great location for some of the best beaches..” Kim – Aug 21
“Breath-taking views, falling asleep to the sound of the ocean, woodfire cooking, clean facilities, spacious camp site, and friendly hosts; all a walk away from the beach. An amazing eco-camping experience!” Jo – Aug 21
“This is a lovely little camping spot with great facilities and a very friendly host. You can reach Mawgan Porth in around 10 mins on foot by walking through the adjoining fields, which is great for surfing and cliff top walks. The campsite is amongst a small farm so it was nice waking up to horses in the next field. The pitches are nicely spaced out and there are only five in total, which means you’re not sharing the facilities with loads of other campers and have space to breathe. The bell tents are spacious, with double beds and basic seating, plus a fire pit per pitch.” Emilie – July 21
“This really is an exceptional place. An oasis of calm and tranquility a stone’s throw from the busy resort of Mawgan Porth, you can be as isolated or as connected as you like. The site is immaculate but basic, with beautifully levelled individual pitches well spaced from each other. The compost toilet is spotlessly clean and the gas shower is a pleasure to use. We loved the fire pit we were supplied with. Liz was a fabulous host with a wealth of local information and time to get to know all her guests. Highly recommend this place to anyone who loves simplicity and tranquility.” Rachel – July 21
“Fantastic small campsite, well run, quiet and has great views. Location is also perfect for those looking to do outdoors activities. We loved this campsite. Liz was a great host and made us feel very welcome. Would definitely go back!” Omar – July 21
“We had a lovely time at Higher Pendeen Camping. Liz is a very helpful host. She met us at our late arrival and showed us around the camping site. The site is very well organized, clean and has all facilities for us. It has a very nice view: a lovely place to see both sunset and sunrise. It also has a lovely walk path on the side of the farm to the beach. If you are looking for a quiet place to be close to nature, this place is for you!” KHP – June 21
“Perfect spot for back-to-basics simple and sustainable camping. Small site, fantastic location (10 min walk to the beach with surf hire) with some local pubs and bars all within a short walk through the fields. Fantastic hosts, super friendly and helpful with great local recommendations.” Cal – June 21
“Really wonderful stay, 10/10 site. We came as a couple and it was remote, beautiful views and such a perfect location. Lovely 15 minute walk to the beach, and right on the coastal path to enjoy some long walks. Liz was great, dropping off eggs, lettuce and local steaks for us to cook on our fire-pit! Would highly recommend.” Henrietta – June 21
“This campsite is AMAZING!! If you love staying on super quiet sites with great quality facilities & service then look no further! The views are outstanding, the place is super clean and well maintained, you can tell lots of love & care goes into this site! Liz is super accommodating and welcoming, you can order local logs, kindling kits, eggs and even order meat from the butchers, via Liz – she also drops everything off at your pitch! Can’t wait to visit again!” Ellie – June 21
“Amazing little campsite!” Neil – June 21
“Such a lovely campsite & the beds are very comfy! The walk to the beach is short & you can see some amazing views. Highly recommend.” Amelia – June 21
“Lovely campsite in a lovely location. Simple but great amenities. Friendly hosts and idyllic views. Would definitely stay again.” Natalie – June 21
“We stayed at Higher Pendeen for 3 nights in the bell tent, it was a fantastic experience, Liz was there on arrival to run through everything, she is very friendly and helpful. The beach was only a 10 minute walk which was ideal for our two boys who are 8 and 5. I would definitely recommend this campsite.” Vanessa – June 21
“Lovely place to stay, site has everything you need and so close to the beach. Would 100% stay again!” Harrie – May 21
“Higher Pendeen is situated in an idyllic location just 10 minutes walk from Mawgan Porth beach and is perfect for exploring the north Cornwall coast. Very clean composting toilet and a lovely hot shower which was much better than the offering on a lot of other sites I’ve stayed on in the past. Liz was very welcoming and helpful with some great recommendations for local pubs/bars etc. We were even lucky enough to have the whole campsite to ourselves for the weekend. It is rare nowadays to be allowed fire pits etc and I was impressed with the fire starter kit that the site supplied for a small charge which kept us warm on what was an unusually cold May evening! Would recommend this site to anybody travelling to the area and will definitely be returning.” Ben – May 21
“Perfect location for exploring North Cornwall and for all the surfing beaches. Lovely site on a quiet hillside with huge amounts of space, big flat pitches, good quality facilities. Hosts are very helpful and friendly and have a great eco friendly ethos.” Eric – May 21
“Really lovely campsite, very peaceful and a super location for visiting beaches such as Mawgan Porth, Watergate Bay and Porth.” Camilla – April 21
“The most incredible views!!!” Matt – April 21
“Great site away from the crowds but within walking distance of the beach. Liz is very helpful and friendly. The Bell Tents are spacious with comfortable beds and the facilities are close by and clean. Great base for exploring Cornwall. We had a great stay and would come again.” Paul – April 21

“Liz and her family could not have been friendlier or better hosts! Their campsite is utterly gorgeous, tidy and fits our eco-friendly requirements. Plus it is only a short walk to the beach, which is gorgeous in itself. Our daughter loved their goats and horses and playing with her new friend Monty. We shall definitely be returning soon!” Cindy – Oct 20
“Absolutely brilliant campsite. Facilities were fantastic and Liz was especially accommodating and attentive. The campsite was very cozy and communal, and the basket of vegetables was a delicious addition to our grill. The location of the site is ideal – a short walk down to the beach but still tucked away from the busier caravan parks in the area. There was barely any light pollution giving us amazing night skies. The bell tents were very spacious and comfortable, would definitely recommend. We’ve just left, but we’re already thinking of when we can go back.” Jon and Belinda – Sept 20
“Thank you so much Liz and Mike for providing such a great camping experience. We were warmly welcomed even though we arrived very late ! Sorry… the composting toilets were the cleanest I’ve seen ever. The outside shower clean/hot and felt great after a few hours in the surf. We really appreciated being able to order eggs, logs etc in advance and was lovely that they were on the pitch waiting for us… would highly recommend staying here and will definitely be back ourselves…” Jen – Sept 20
“Couldn’t ask for more! Idyllic spot just 10 minutes stroll from the beach, spotless and good Covid precautions. Very clean composting toilet and nice hot shower. Liz made us feel so welcome and there was even a basket of goodies from the vegetable garden. We’ll definitely be back!” Claire – Sept 20
“Onsite services provided are really well thought through and our host really made us feel at home. Clean compost toilet, and even hot showers. Wood fire is really affordable and added to our camping experience.” David – Aug 20
“COVID secure, Quiet, Friendly, helpful host. Great shower” Helen – Sept 20
“A Hidden Gem! Fantastic little campsite. Chilled vibes with uncrowded pitches, friendly owners and only a short walk to the beach. We will be back for sure!” Casper – Sept 20
“Amazing campsite, perfect for escaping from the world and enjoying the beautiful Cornish coast. Located within a 10 min walk to the beach, you can enjoy a morning swim in the sea as well as watch the sunset on the beach without worrying about parking/getting back to camp. Liz was so accommodating and thoughtful, making sure we had everything we needed for our stay. The facilities are always clean and Covid safety has clearly been well thought out. We will definitely be returning next time we visit Cornwall!” Athina – Sept 20
“We were lucky enough to stay at Higher Pendeen on their opening weekend and had an awesome time! The site is immaculate, peaceful, and offers a convenient walk to the beach which was awesome. Toilet and shower were both incredibly clean, warm and reliable. Would definitely be back to stay again” Johnny – Aug 20
“Truly awesome location, people and facilities. This is such a great find. Intimate with an exclusive feeling but very much down to earth. It’s also in a great position with just a 10 min walk down to the beach/bars etc. Lots of great extras such as the fresh veg basket and VERY dry affordable wood. Thanks Liz and everyone at the campsite. We all had a great stay and will definitely be booking back in.” Marty – Sept 20
“Looking for a place to stay, look no further. Great atmosphere, lovely clean site and so close to the beach. Highly recommend! 5 * all the way” Richard – Sept 20
“Higher Pendeen was a lovely campsite. Overlooking views of the surrounding hills and a short, mostly private walk to Mawgan Porth beach past a horse pasture, it was just what we were looking for in a weekend down in Cornwall. The site was clean and tidy, with one composting toilet and a shower with hot water. The host, Liz, was quick in her communication during our booking, and gracious and welcoming throughout our stay. Her friendly nature set the tone for the site, and she introduced us naturally to some other campers. When we booked, she sent us the link for an app that had all the campsite information easily laid out. I would highly recommend.” Connell – Sept 20
“Great little camping site on top of a hillside. Strongly recommend the 10 min walk down to the village/ beach, as the landscape is breathtaking. Being an eco-site, the infrastructure is minimalistic, yet fully functional and surprisingly confortable to use. There is also a complementary basket of locally grown veggies for all campers to help them selves to! Lovely hosts, Liz and Michael are tirelessly making sure the campsite is always in pristine conditions and all campers have all they need. Thank you! We had a great long weekend there and will definitley return asap. Highly recommended!” Nelson – Aug 20
“Brilliant campsite and Liz was a fantastic host; we had fresh logs and kindling each night for the fire pit, our bell tent was large enough to fit 2 x double beds comfortably and had beautiful views over the valley. It’s a small campsite with loads of room between pitches so it felt as private as you want it to be. The fresh veg from the allotment was a really welcome surprise, and we were able to buy some fresh eggs from the farm too. We were provided with a camping stove and kettle along with the tent- it was so comfortable, we felt right at home. Eco loo and shower were great facilities for the 4 nights we stayed here. As for the surrounding area- it’s a short walk to the beach from the site where you can rent wet-suits and body boards ( and brilliant Cornish ice-cream for afterwards!). Really picturesque walks nearby too, and there’s a lovely independent coffee place up the road serving amazing veggie breakfasts and hot sandwiches. Can’t wait to come back!” Caroline – Aug 20
“My partner and I stayed 2 nights in a Bell Tent for his birthday and it was such an amazing experience. We love the eco ethos and this was one of the main things we loved about the site. The pricing was really fair and we were also given a fire pit to use over the weekend, including enough wood to make two fires. We were also given free fresh produce from the vegetable patch on site which was a really special touch. The location is stunning and peaceful surrounded by greenery, natural landscape and some of the resident farm animals which I adored. The pitches are spaced out really well which we really appreciated. Often with Cornish camping you are packed in, but Higher Pendeen was the complete opposite so you feel you have your own personal spot to unwind. Liz our host was such a kind chatty soul and we loved seeing her in the morning as she made her way around site for her morning caretaking. Liz had such amazing knowledge of the local area and she made us feel so welcome, thank you Liz! We can’t wait to stay here again and we hope it’s not too long again before we do. We are locals and this has to be one of our new favourite spots” Caoimhe – Aug 20
“We had a great time at Higher Pendeen, we arrived in gales and pitched up our tent, Liz was very attentive to make sure we were OK. The site sits at a top of the valley with sea views and an easy 10 minute walk on a mowed path to the beach which is great as you avoid busy car parks. The facilities are basic but very clean.” Kate – Aug 20
“Easily the best campsite I’ve ever stayed at. It is a small, intimate site but there was a real sense of community, plus this meant it was very quiet. The site was clean, easy to locate and not too far from the beach. Liz was extremely attentive and tried her absolute best to make sure we had a great experience. Whether that was providing info about the area or keeping us updated with the weather. Eco camping done right.” Marie – Aug 20
