Sustainable Camping Ideas

Camping makes us feel GOOD. Here at Higher Pendeen Camping, we get back to nature, back to basics and back to what makes us feel GREAT. As a sustainable and eco friendly campsite, we kindly ask our guests to support our ethos by just making a few changes to their visit, by using environmentally friendly toiletries and detergents, cutting down on waste, recycling and supporting local producers.

If you would like some ideas, particularly if you are looking for an ethical gift for your camp buddies, here are just a few of our local Cornish sustainable suppliers we love, to give you a helping hand to get started.

Bamboo cutlery from Cornwall Creatives. Reusable, lightweight, eco friendly and made from a sustainable source, these are perfect for your camping trip or beach picnic. The same goes for bamboo plates. Of course, it now goes without saying to use refillable drinks bottles and cups such as Ocean Bottle.

Another from Cornwall Creatives, Bamboo Toothbrushes are crazy perfect for your vacation. A sustainable product source, it is also naturally antibacterial, so amazing for throwing in your bag for travelling.

Beauty Kubes from St Agnes were so inspired to join the fight against plastics, they created their own awesome range of ethical toiletries. Cruelty, silicone and palm oil free, including a vegan range, what’s not to love!

Forget the polystyrene body boards and make the investment in a classic bellyboard from Karma Surf. Hand crafted from sustainable plywood, if looked after, these iconic boards can last a lifetime and there are plenty which are handed down through the generations to continue the ‘stoke’.

We’ve all been there – it’s been a scorcher of a day, but you just need something to cosy up in around the campfire at night. Atlantic Blankets, based in Perranporth, have a simply gorgeous range of sustainable woollen products including recycled blankets to keep that evening chill at bay and enjoy those starlit nights.

Other sustainable camping ideas include using beeswax wraps for food instead of clingfilm, such as these at Bee Retro, charge your phone while cooking on this innovative USB Stove from Biolite.

Recycled towels such as these from Coastal Linen Supplies are a really ethical alternative to mass produced linen. Keeping cosy has never been easier on the beach with Dry Robes made with up to 100% recycled materials.

Choose a clothing manufacturer with high sustainability credentials such as Vaude whose outdoor products are environmentally friendly and ethical.

Drop us an email or message if there are specific sustainable camping ideas you are looking for – Cornwall is so full of innovative, wonderful and eco friendly products, we love to highlight as many as we can! It only takes one change to make a difference to our planet.
